Rollright Stone Circle (Oxfordshire)

A near perfect circle, 32m in diameter, of weathered local oolitic limestones.

OS Map Ref: SP296309

Access: Circle is immediately south of the lane from Great Rollright to Little Rollright. Large layby next to circle entrance (nominal entrance fee).

A circle of (originally eighty) limestone pillars stand in a weathered bank.

Portal stones mark a south eastern entrance.

On the other side of the road about 70m NNE is the 2.5m high outlier known as the King Stone.

It’s distorted shape is mainly due to souvenir hunters.

About 350m ESE of the circle are the Whispering Knights, the remains of a megalithic tomb.
